Services

Services

Our team of General Practitioners (GPs) provide quality healthcare to you and your family.

Adult and Child Medical Care

The General Practitioners who care for your health are professionals trained for several years to acquire the knowledge and skills to help treat children and adults facing physical and emotional challenges.

Minor Accident Care

Our practitioners can attend to you in case you suffer a minor accident and will refer you to another fellow medical professional if that accident requires more specialised care.

Minor Surgery

Our health centre conducts biopsies and removal through surgery of skin lesions such as ingrown toenails or benign moles, saving you time and helping avoid crowding hospitals.

Repeat Prescriptions

Patients enrolled in our practice with diagnosed illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, or asthma may be eligible to receive a repeat prescription for a period decided by the GP caring for those patients.

Lab Investigations

Our centre can perform urine tests when your doctor requires and has connections to specialised laboratories that can conduct various blood tests whose results will be ready in most cases in 48 hours.

Women's Health

We have two doctors who have a special interest in women's health. Dr Robyn Blake and Dr Rachel Mansfield provide services for Mirenas, Pipelles, Jadelles and Pessarys. Feel free to book a consultation to discuss your requirements with Dr Blake or Dr Mansfield through Manage My Health or by calling the Health Centre on 03 4895135.

Vasectomy

Dr Ken McGurk has recently commenced this service at the Health Centre.  For enquiries please either book a consultation with Dr McGurk through Manage My Health or by calling the Health Centre on 03 4895135.

Skin issues treatments with liquid nitrogen

We can treat skin damaged by the sun, viral warts, and skin tags with liquid nitrogen that addresses various benign cosmetic lesions. Usually, one treatment is sufficient, but in some cases, your doctor may recommend a second application around two weeks after the first one. Our WART Clinic runs usually every Thursday afternoon. Book an appointment through Manage My Health or by calling reception on 034895135.

CLIC – Client Led Integrated Care

People with long-term medical needs can receive additional support. Our CLIC programme is tailored for each individual to ensure the best possible health.

Healthcare Home

Mosgiel Health Centre is a Health Care Home. This new concept has introduced new service providers to the practice – A Health Improvement Practitioner, Health Coach and Community Support Worker.

Being a Healthcare Home enables us to:

  • make it easier to keep you healthy
  • save you time and money
  • quickly help you when you are unwell
  • work together to help our CLIC patients stay well

Intrauterine Contraceptive Device insertion

An Intrauterine Contraceptive Device is an effective method to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Our doctors have been properly trained to perform this procedure safely.

Immunisation services

According to New Zealand National Immunisation Schedule, certain vaccines are provided free of charge, whilst others, such as travel vaccines, can be purchased by those who want them.

You can get the vaccinations at our health centre, where registered nurses and doctors will make sure your state of health is fit before getting immunised.

Cervical Screening

Cervical Screening is a test conducted every three years and recommended for all women between the age of 25 and 69 years who are sexually active, including women vaccinated for protection against Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

This screening detects abnormal cells which could progress into cancerous cells and is one of the most efficient ways to fight against cervical cancer.

ECG

Electrocardiogram or ECG is a test that measures the rhythm and electrical activity of the heart. Used to investigate symptoms like dizziness, palpitation, chest pain or shortness of breath, ECG can detect medical affections such as:

  • coronary heart disease (a build-up of fatty deposits obstructs the blood supply of the heart)
  • arrhythmias (the heart beats irregularly)
  • previous heart attacks
  • cardiomyopathy (the heart’s walls are enlarged or thickened).

Spirometry

Spirometry measures the volume of the lungs (how much air they can hold) and their flow (how much air can be inhaled and exhaled). This tool is used to detect damage caused by conditions like:

  • pulmonary fibrosis (lungs no longer work properly because their tissue is damaged)
  • asthma
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD – a group of diseases that includes emphysema and bronchitis)
  • cystic fibrosis (an inherited condition that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs).

Well Child/Tamariki Ora Health Checks – Birth to Three Years

Well Child/Tamariki Ora Health Checks is a package with free health checks for all New Zealand children from birth to 3 years.

The mission of these checks is to make sure all children benefit from the best health protection possible. These checks include clinical evaluation, health education and support for the families conducted by a Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) that can be, according to your choice, a community nurse, a Māori health provider or a General Practice Team of a doctor and a practice nurse.

COVID-19 Testing

Testing remains one of the most efficient methods to learn where Coronavirus is present and where it’s heading and to protect yourself and your loved ones against new, possibly more contagious variants of the virus.

Our GP practices provide COVID-19 testing to enrolled patients, and you can find more information by calling our centre.

COVID-19 Vaccination

Currently, our centre provides Pfizer vaccines to children between the ages of 5 to 11 and persons older than 12.

Everybody is eligible, so all you need to do is make an appointment via the booking link available on our site or by calling the COVID Vaccination Healthline on 0800 28 29 26.

COVID-19 vaccine can be administered at the same time with, before or after most routine vaccinations, except the shingles one.

Patient Portal - access to your health information

A patient portal is a secure online health platform provided by GP practices that you can access remotely anytime. It helps you manage your health details like scheduling an appointment with your doctor, requesting repeat prescriptions, viewing your lab test results or having a video check-up instead of coming to the doctor’s office.

You can find more details about the services provided by our health centre by contacting us at 03 489 5135.
